PAY IT FORWARD
Established in 2020, B-SEARCH – a philanthropic collaborative exclusively funding breast cancer research – upends the traditional model of giving by introducing a donor base to a Grant Recipient whose innovative research focuses on highly promising initiatives within the field of breast cancer.
B-SEARCH connects donors to this groundbreaking – bench to bedside – research and fills a gap with immediate support for critical needs unmet by grants or federal funding. By providing donors with ongoing updates and insight into these innovative projects through video content, interviews and lab visits, B-SEARCH works to light up the lab for a new donor base.
B-SEARCH has successfully raised almost $900,000 for breast cancer research. A Grant Recipient is announced to a network of supporters in October – aligning with Breast Cancer Awareness Month – and, through a swift raise, funding closes at year-end. Resources are unrestricted and can be put to immediate use by the Grant Recipient.
To further promote collaboration in the field of breast cancer research, B-SEARCH employs a “pay it forward” model whereby the Grant Recipient makes recommendations for a changemaker / fellow scientist / breast cancer researcher / collaborator with whom they would like B-SEARCH to consider as the next Grant Recipient. Grant Recipients are only identified and selected by a leading researcher and industry peer.
Following a successful fundraising cycle, B-SEARCH founders and significant donors travel to and enjoy a working session and lab visit with the Grant Recipient. The goal of this visit is to further promote the success of the research – lighting up the lab for donors.
The time commitment on the part of the Grant Recipient involves drafting a primer paper that explicitly highlights the need for funding, limited ZOOM calls, one in-person on-camera interview and the concluding lab visit with the B-SEARCH team. All donor fundraising is directed through the platform of the research institution which must be an accredited 501 C3 or the like.
